The first QR Code on a wine bottle!

Wine Review: Fiasco Sauvignon Blanc with no added Sulphur was New Zealand’s first winery to start using the latest technology, a Quick Response Code (QR code). QR codes have been used heavily throughout Asia for promotions and advertising but seldom used for anything as innovative as a wine label, especially the main design.

In the photo below you’ll notice that the QR code is placed in the centre of the label thus being an integral part of the overall label design.

Try using your smart phone to take a pic of the QR code from the screen and see where it takes you.

The QR code on the bottle below appears to take you to another landing page. I am not sure whether they expire or not, but this would have to be a consideration for marketers.

The wine is Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc and its unique point of difference is that there has been no sulphur added. Although sulphur can be detected it is only the natural occurring sulphur in wine that is present. This gives the wine take an unusual flavour, not unpleasant but certainly not Marlborough.

The obvious varietal characters are evident but there is an overall roundness to both nose and palate. The fruit is pure and the palate less astringent. The wine would not appeal to those wanting Sauvignon Blanc in its rawest form, but would appeal to those wanting a difference, a little taste experience.
